Moson Khalim

Modun – Category 3 Level Threat

Massive, flying, finned mammals who bear large ice crystals on their backs, the moson khalim (moh-sahn kha-leem) are perhaps one of the most majestic ara’atan on Kylia. Utilizing Praesidium jumon, moson khalim levitate their large external skulls in order to fly. The rest of their body consists of a semi-incorporeal mass that holds their organs and allows their iconic ice crystals to grow on their backs.

The moson khalim are particularly worshipped in the Dynasty of the Golden Lotus as bringers of much needed rain and water. Each year during the season of Ghem, the moson khalim venture northeastward to the glaciers of the Kori Sea, between the upper bounds of the Jade Destiny Sect and the Order of the Divine, in order to feed and raise their young. Moson khalim will dive down into the ice, breaking through the frozen barrier with their powerful skulls, in order to catch unsuspecting prey swimming beneath the surface. As they emerge and reascend, excess water collects and freezes on their backsides over time, forming crystallized ice structures. The moson khalim return to the lands of the Dynasty of the Golden Lotus in the season of Ataya, where the warmer weather will slowly melt the ice crystals, filling the air with excess condensation that eventually turns to rain. Citizens of the Dynasty of the Golden Lotus celebrate their arrivals with the Saqiya Festival, and marvel in the spectacle of the moson khalim, as they fly over cities, leaving behind glistening trails of ice and water.
